Depression in this part of the world is not taken so seriously; where some people feel like ‘why on earth should someone commit suicide?’ without stopping to ponder upon what might have been the everyday scenario for such person suffering from depression.

Take it or leave it, some people have been depressed, some are depressed and some will still be depressed. Right now, what needs to be done isn’t to keep blaming folks who take rash actions due to depression; rather, a solution should be offered.

It is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well being. Wiki

Depression isn’t just a mere feeling of sadness like most would think; it goes far deeper, eating deep into the hearts and emotions of its victim. It begins slowly and gradually builds up to become a pattern and almost like a normal way of life for those involved.

My Story

Personally, I’ve been a victim of depression at several stages of my life. At times, it’s mild; more like a short moment of overwhelming sadness and all of a sudden, it’s over. Other times, it’s much worse and can go on for as long as forever. It’s really horrible when someone close passes on.

When The Tears Won’t Come Out

Years ago when depression took its massive toll, I would find a place to be alone just so I can weep my eyes out for no apparent reason. When the tears won’t come out, I would resolve to hurtful means; ‘hurting myself till I get to the peak of tears.

When the depressed phase is over, it’s like the time stood still and continues to move all of a sudden. No one notices the burden felt, the sadness buried deep down and the young girl who is silently praying that someone care enough to notice.

Several stories like this, some even worse exist out there. Day by day, people battle continuously with depression.

Drawing Strength From Your Sufferings

Of a truth, most things that happen to humans they have little or no control over. However, it’s not what happens that matter, rather the ability to make the most out of whatever has happened.

Being a victim of depression has molded my empathy towards others suffering from same, but this can’t be done till one has found a way out; or a way to deal with the situation in the first place.

The Way Forward

While some can walk their way out of depression, it can be quite a challenge for others. Personally, it came from learning to see life differently and consistent self affirmation.

Give Way For Positive People

Constantly being surrounded by positive people can do a whole lot of good, people like this help to see the good side of life. Being surrounded by positive people brings so much optimism to a depressed soul.

Self Affirmation

Regular meditation on positive and affirming words reduces depression. Wake up each morning and speak out positive words (whether or not you feel like doing it).

Share With Others

Letting others in (trusted people) on what’s going on can sometimes take the burden off your shoulders. Even if all they do is listen, it’s still a great step forward.
